Who We Are:

We are a small farm in Fincastle, Virginia near Roanoke nestled between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains and near the Jefferson National Forest. We are proud to breed, raise, show and trail ride the Rocky Mountain Horse. We select stallions for breeding that complement our mares.
Our introduction to the Rocky Mountain Horse began at our high school reunion in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 2000. Classmate Elsie Marcum Hatcher from Rebel Ridge Farm in Bowling Green, Kentucky shared how she and husband Ron raised these extraordinary animals called Rocky Mountain Horses. After a visit to their farm in 2001 for a closer look and trail ride, we fell in love with Rockys. That year, we accompanied Hatchers to the Rocky Mountain International Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky. On our way home to Virginia, we called and sealed a deal to buy a weanling and yearling, and as they say, the rest is history!

Training Techniques:

All our horses receive individual attention. While in training, they undergo routine and frequent ground training and schooling in the ring. We believe good ground manners are important for the safety of rider and horse. We also believe good professional training in the beginning is most important in developing and bringing out the best in each horse. We don’t rush our horses but start them when they are ready. When ready for the show ring, they will be shown in halter only as two-year olds and may or may not be shown under saddle as three-year olds, depending on their development. When solidly under saddle, they will get hours of walking on the trail as well as sensitivity training.
